Biography

Jesse Shafer is a Los Angeles based artist who began his career in Charleston, SC almost a decade ago. While spending his childhood in Nashville, TN he developed a passion for Americana music. This was later mixed with the jazz and rock music he was exposed to in Charleston. He grew fond of classical, ambient, experimental and avant garde music as a teenager and has developed a classic yet innovative style as a natural culmination of these influences. He performs singing and playing multiple instruments such as guitar, pedal steel and bouzouki and incorporates electronic and atypical elements in his live performances.

 

Jesse works as a session musician and artist in Los Angeles, playing with over a dozen groups in the area, producing music and writing for visual media. He holds a masters degree in guitar performance from Musicians Institute, where he works. He is well-known as an educator and has built a strong reputation amongst musicians and music enthusiasts. His music caters to the fans of Daniel Lanois, The Punch Brothers, Jacob Collier, Rhiannon Gideons, Via Mardot, Bill Frisell and Mark Kozelek.

Looking forward to embarking on a new vocal focused solo endeavor, Jesse has created a solo set which will culminate in an album release and extensive subsequent touring in 2025. 

​

Past projects of Jesse's include chamber music compositions, big band jazz orchestra arrangements, large ensemble instrumental albums, leading and playing in several rock and pop groups. Jesse has worked with Sunnyside Records releasing the Rooibos Quartet album, placing on the iTunes jazz chart and APM releasing an album of music for visual media with Adam Wakeman's library. Likewise, Jesse is currently composing a piece of music in surround sound for a traveling art exhibition discussing climate change.

Jesse has performed at venues such as the Troubador, Whisky a Go Go, The Roxy, House of Blues Anaheim, the Charleston Music Hall and festivals such as Picollo Spoleto, GARP festival and the Anatolia College Summer Festival (Greece). he has a strong audience in the south east USA, southern california, and a growing reputation worldwide.
